We take time during everyone’s busy summer to acknowledge the departure of Dr. Kenneth Roumpos and look forward to the arrival of Dr. Mike Dominguez as the new Superintendent of Schools for the Francis Howell School District.
- Departure of Dr. Kenneth Roumpos: After guiding the district through very challenging periods over his five-year tenure in Francis Howell, Dr. Roumpus will depart on June 30, 2025, to lead the Kirkwood School District. Starting in July 2020 as the Deputy Superintendent before being promoted to Superintendent in July 2022, Dr. Roumpos led with a calm but steady demeanor that is rare in Missouri school superintendents these days. His work ethic and professionalism set a fine example for the students in Francis Howell schools. We wish Dr. Roumpos the best of luck in his next position.
- Arrival of Dr. Mike Dominguez: We are optimistic about Dr. Mike Dominguez, who will officially begin his role as Superintendent of Schools on July 1, 2025, bringing a renewed emphasis on academic priorities.
- Rigorous Selection Process: School Exec Connect, a reputable firm specializing in educational leadership, conducted a thorough nationwide search. The process incorporated extensive community input through surveys, focus groups, and interviews, ensuring parent, staff, and community voices helped shaped the outcome. Dr. Dominguez was approved by the Board of Education by a vote of 6-0.
- Dr. Dominguez’s Qualifications: We are encouraged by Dr. Dominguez’s background as superintendent for districts in Texas and Kansas, as well as his place in the Texas Wrestling Hall of Honor of Leadership and Coaching. We note that he will be the district’s first minority superintendent, a historic milestone for FHSD.
- Academic Focus: Most importantly, we value his track record of prioritizing measurable academic outcomes, such as improved test scores and college readiness. We expect Dr. Dominguez to emphasize core subjects—math, reading, science, and history—while building trust with families to ensure our schools remain focused on preparing students for real-world success.
As we bid farewell to Dr. Roumpos, we urge Dr. Dominguez to increase the focus on academic rigor. His leadership offers an opportunity to strengthen FHSD’s commitment to student achievement. We look forward to supporting his efforts, and according to his own leadership principles, to “hold him able” to succeed.
